About The Site

In short: reviews of “straight to DVD, TV movies and other filmic delights that can be had from the ?1 stores”*

Long form: At some point, someone in the UK realised that they could make money selling stacks of stuff in cavernous, warehouse like shops, at the flat price of a pound. The model reproduced at a disturbing rate - to the point at which there is a good chance of finding multiple pound shops along the same reasonably busy road. Thanks to their increased buying power a variety of products filled their shelves, including, of course, DVDs. Mostly these were direct-to-video, B, and TV movies from quality publishers such as the legendary Hollywood DVD, but there is the occasional gem. The aim of this site is to burrow into that foetid pile and eke out the meagre cinematic subsistance that is to be had.

The site runs on WordPress, which provides all the mod cons such as RSS feeds and so on. The server is located in Portland in the US, which is also where Sleater Kinney and Elliott Smith come from. The author is located in Brighton in the UK.

About The Films

The films are reviewed based on whatever I happen to watch, without a particular method to their choice. There isn’t much in the way of reviews of the DVDs themselves; the transfers are usually not exactly SuperBit quality, the extras are generally non-existant, and “animated menus” is usually a dream beyond their means.

About The Name

After some umming and arring, the name came courtesy of a photo from author William Gibson, as posted on his blog. Possibly the person in question is the distinctly un-twit-like Mudwig Dan, but I suspect we shall never know - Ian Francis confirms: “The graffiti is indeed by Dan, aka Mudwig. He writes it quite a lot“.
